Preserving the
Water, Wildlife, and Wetlands
of Historic Timber Lake

Timber Lake was built 100 years ago…

It was a special place way out in the country; a. respite from city hassle; a quiet woodland preserve teeming with all kinds of life. It has a storied history. The suburbs have grown up around it.

It is still a special and amazing place! It still teems with wonderful life - birds, animals, aquatic life, plants.

Increased development threatens this environmental sanctuary. Our mission is to preserve it through education, awareness-building, and conservation projects to protect its amazing ecosystem and the dam that forms it.

In 1995…

the Timber Lake dam failed, draining the lake and taking two lives. It was very challenging two years planning and executing the rebuild. During the recovery from this disaster, residents forged a new purpose to care for the lake and the new dam.

Now…

There are almost 1000 homes, apartments, and businesses in TImber Lake’s watershed. It has changed flood dynamics and caused significantly increased silt flow. The potential for pollutants to enter the lake the lake and damage wetlands, waters and their inhabitants is greater now than ever.

There is much to do! We have a growing list of projects and other activities we must do to preserve this unique lake!

Our Projects

We carry out projects that preserve the lake and its environs. Projects generally fall into the following categories:
